描述：與原始的隨機交配3T3和近交系BALB/c 3T3建株方法一樣，NIH/3T3，是從NIH Swiss小鼠胚胎培養物中建立的高度接觸抑制的連續細胞株。 為了培育在形態學特征上更適合于進行轉化分析的亞株，建立的NIH/3T3細胞株又進行了五輪以上亞克隆。 這株細胞對DNA轉化及轉染研究十分有用。 檢測表明肢骨發育畸形病毒(鼠痘)陰性。
